CITY OF TULSA,
SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PROGRAM
The Tulsa Police Department has used COPS funds to place fourteen officers in middle schools throughout Tulsa. They teach D.A.R.E., implement the GREAT program and focus on prevention messages which include violence, graffiti, guns, gangs, and truancy prevention. The officers identify children at-risk of becoming gang members and provide positive intervention to help re-direct those students. The program stresses building positive relationships between officers and students. There is close collaboration with the public school coordinators for Safe and Drug-Free Schools and juvenile court officials.
